Insider’s Perspective: Jonas Talks About His Internship as a Software Developer

In August, we welcomed Jonas to our team as a trainee. Our company, which specialises in software development and innovative solutions for the rail industry and public transport, among others, is always on the lookout for fresh talent to enrich our team. Jonas decided to spend part of his summer holidays with us and get a taste of real "software developer air". We wanted to learn more about his experiences and impressions during his one-month internship.

What is your current level of education?
Currently, I am attending HTBLA Kaindorf with a focus on computer science. I wanted to do a summer internship to further develop my practical skills and knowledge in software development and gain insights into the profession of a software developer.

How did you decide to apply for an internship at Boom Software?
My programming teacher recommended the company to me. He mentioned that Boom is one of the leading software manufacturers in our region and that the company is constantly looking for young software talents.

Why did you choose to do an internship here?
I wanted to gain experience in the working world, and Boom Software operates in the exact field I want to work in the future. I am very interested in software development and aspire to develop my own programs or games someday.

In which department are you working during your internship, and what are your responsibilities within the company?
I am assisting in the Research and Development (R&D) department. I have been tasked with developing a tool that simplifies certain tasks involving Word documents.

What were your expectations before starting your internship at Boom?
I wanted to gain insights into how processes work in a software company and how development happens at Boom Software. I also wanted the opportunity to actively contribute, and that’s precisely what I’ve found here. Every day, I learn something new and receive strong support from my colleagues in the department as well as from the supervisors. I don’t feel like I’m “just” an intern; I feel like part of the team.

How do you like working at Boom?
I really enjoy working here. There is a pleasant atmosphere and Boom has fantastic staff. Everyone is friendly, helpful and humorous.

What has been your favorite non-work activity so far?
Apart from work, I’ve enjoyed playing table soccer in the “Gaming Lounge” the most. It’s a great way to relax and chat with others during breaks. Plus, I’m pretty good at it. 😉

Is there anything you haven’t liked during your time here so far? If so, how can we improve it?
Actually, there’s nothing I haven’t liked. The only thing that would be great is having a designated bike rack in front of the building. 🙂 🙂

Would you consider interning at Boom again in the future, or would you recommend others to intern here?
If the opportunity arises, I would definitely intern at Boom again. I would also recommend an internship here to anyone who enjoys programming or is interested in software development. You learn a lot, have fun, and can advance professionally.

Could you also see yourself becoming a part of Boom in the future?
Yes, I could very well see that happening. Boom is a great company with exciting projects and wonderful people. My time here has further strengthened my passion for software development, and I look forward to expanding my skills in this exciting field.

What are your plans after completing your education?
After completing my education, I plan to work in software or game development. The skills and knowledge I’ve gained at Boom will undoubtedly play a significant role in my future career.
